Literature in God's house
|
What to do with an abandoned church? On Møllegade 7 in Copenhagen there’s an old Methodist church called Bathania, which came to life once again in 2005 as LiteraturHaus was opened. The intention was to create a meeting-place for authors, critics, students and others interested in literature. In addition to events like weekly literary cafés, poetry festivals and guest lectures by different authors, LiteraturHaus also offers a place for experiencing music, film and art. A house of contrastsThe solemn atmosphere of the church hall, with its high ceilings and memories of sermons past, is in sharp contrast to the basement’s intimate café. Resounding operas as well as quiet poetry readings can thus find a place in LiteraturHaus.
