Malmö Konsthall

Malmö Konsthall is one of Europe’s biggest forums for the modern art. They yearly arrange about ten different exhibitions with international alignment. They show both modern art classics as well as current experiments. The art gallery is located by Magistratparken and was opened in 1975. The building is designed by Klas Anshelm that has created a show room with a great flexibility, generous space and a beautiful light. In 1994 the art gallery was renovated, which resulted in that the brick building next door was united with the show room. In this way a space for a book store, restaurant, c-hall, children’s area and a smaller show room called Mellanrummet was created. All sorts of art are shown here and the boundaries are kept open through other arrangements like theatre, films, lectures and so on. Each year has Malmö Konsthall more than 200 000 visitors, they have had exhibitions with artists like Munch, Van Gogh, Louise Bourgeois and David Shrigley. In the book store you will find a wide assortment of art books, catalogues, posters and postcards. You can also find fiction from smaller publishers as well as children’s books, video and dvd films and art and cultural magazines. The restaurant that’s connected to the art gallery is called SMAK and is definitely worth a visit because of its exciting south Swedish menu.
